Jeju Island - 'treasure island of environmental assets'

Jeju which was created by volcanic activity is known for its unique volcanic features, and the entire island itself is like a volcanic museum. There are 368 oreum on the island (※ oreum: It means 'small mountain' in Jeju dialect) and over 160 lava tubes are scattered on the island. It's very rare to see a small island that has both oreum and caves in the world. The value of Jeju was proved as the island received as the island was designated Biosphere Reserve in 2002, World Natural Heritage in 2007 and Global Geopark in 2010, making the sub-tropical island only place on Earth to receive all three UNESCO designations in natural sciences. Jeju Island has a unique culture of food, clothing, and housing due to the geographic characteristics of the island and its unusual natural environment. Even today, citizens of Jeju Island maintain this unique, traditional flavor reflecting the island's nature in their houses, tools, and clothing. Jeju has been a popular tourist destination for people not only from Korea but also from all over the world. natural places like scenic tracking courses and waterfalls, as well as many cultural places such as fine arts gallery, tea museum, and Bonsai gardens are located throughout the island.

The 10th Asian-European International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering (AEPSE2015) will be held from September 20(Sun.) to September 24(Thur.), 2015, in Jeju, Republic of Korea which is an exotic UNESCO world heritage island. The AEPSE 2015 is organized by Asian Joint Committee for Applied Plasma Science and Engineering (AJC-APSE) in close collaboration with European Joint Committee on Plasma and Ion Surface Engineering (EJC/PISE). The AEPSE conference has attracted growing interests as one of the global nominated open forums for contributing to scientific and industrial progress in applied plasma science and engineering fields in Asia and Europe as well as other countries since the first conference, which had commenced in 1997 in Seoul, Korea. Especially, leading the world of industries such as semiconductor, digital devices including display and touch panels, automobile industry etc. in East Asia, a new paradigm of scientific and technological innovation in plasma surface engineering is required for further rapid advancement of the leading industries in advanced materials and processes and for expansion of new technologies as well as market. We would like to cordially invite you to attend the AEPSE 2015 in Jeju, Korea, for open discussions and collaboration opportunities for advancement and innovation in scientific and technological topics related to plasma surface engineering, emerging core technologies and/or industries as well as new prospective market.
